Development
Atherton Baptist Homes relies on the generosity of friends, churches, and foundations. This support has played a vital role in helping to fulfill our mission as a Christian retirement community offering a full range of living options and services to ministers, missionaries, and their spouses, and the lay community.

The reasons for making a gift to Atherton are personal and varied.  Whatever your motivation, you will find a variety of ways to give and make a difference in the lives of our residents.

Direct Donations

  • Cash, check or money order
  • Monthly electronic fund transfers

Other Types of Gifts

  • Stocks and marketable securities
  • Real estate
  • Books, materials
  • Vehicles

Honor or Memorialize a Friend or Relative

Tree of Life:  The Tree of Life is prominently displayed in the lobby of the Health Care Center to recognize the gifts of significant donors and to serve as an appropriate symbol of your caring as expressed through the ministry of Atherton Baptist Homes.

Major gifts are recorded in one of three ways.  An appropriate inscription is engraved upon one of three places as requested by the donor and reflects the level of the gift.  The opportunities for giving are listed below.

Each leaf represents a gift of $5,000 or more.  Each golden apple represents a gift of $25,000 or more.  Each rock represents a gift of $100,000 or more.

Walk of Faith:  Bricks in front of the Health Center can be personalized to honor friends and relatives.  A donation of $500 will provide this meaningful memorial with wording of your choice.

Estate Planning
Planning is an important part of life, and it’s important that we prepare for what lies ahead.  To help with this, Atherton offers a program for planning the outcome of your estate.  We can help show you how to ensure the continued support of the people and groups you hold dear and avoid most if not all estate taxes.

An outright donation now can earn a tax deduction for the full value of your gift.  Alternatively, you could set up a deferred gift plan, providing income to you for your lifetime and transferring the gift to Atherton at a later time.

The Heritage Club is composed of those who have shown their long term interest and support by including Atherton Baptist Homes in their estate plan.  It is the commitment rather than the amount that is the basic factor in qualifying as a Heritage Club Member.

Each year these special friends of Atherton Baptist Homes are invited to a dinner and program to receive recognition, share recommendations, receive a report concerning Atherton, and enjoy a relaxed informal occasion.

If you have any questions regarding your charitable plans for the future, feel free to call Lyn Burgess at 626-289-4178, ext. 443 or email lburgess@abh.org.
