Exodus 3:10-11 Therefore, Come now and I will send you to Pharaoh, so that you may bring My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt. But Moses was afraid and said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt.

Questions for reflection and application:

  • Is there anything today that is frightening or frustrating me?
  • Can I trust that God has a purpose for faulty people like Moses and like me?

Thought for today: Moses was one of the greatest leaders in human history. He wrote the first five books of the Bible, and led the people of God through the greatest event in their early history, The Exodus. He performed miracles, spoke with God and for God as His friend, and defeated the greatest army and civilization of his time. Yet, he was plagued by fear and frustration. He questioned God’s work and God’s will, and he had to learn humility the hard way. He was a flawed and faulty man whom God called for an amazing purpose and he rose to each challenge with God’s help.

Prayer for Meditation: Most Merciful and Loving God, I know that I want to follow you and be as faithful as my ancestors were. But so often, something just stops me from moving forward, my fear of not pleasing everyone, my anxiety to be different. When I read scriptures and learn that even Moses became frightened and frustrated, I become encouraged to take a step. Thank you for giving us models who show us that with your faithfulness everything is possible. I give thanks to you for learning from history and that it is alright to struggle and even have doubts. Help me, I pray, to be able to take a breath and feel the Holy Spirit stir in me. Be with me when I want to take a new step and guide me that my hopes and dreams to follow you are just a little closer to becoming a reality. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
