Staff Notes: Diversity
By Rev. J. Craig Statton, President & CEO

Lynn Schusterman, a Jewish philanthropist from Tulsa, Oklahoma, once said, “Our people represent a tapestry of interwoven identities embodying the rich diversity of what it means to be Jewish.”

As most know, Atherton is a community of seniors that was started a century ago as a ministry to retired Baptist ministers and missionaries.  Over the years the community has grown in a many ways and one of those is the blessing of diversity.

Today Atherton is home to almost 400 seniors who come from different ethnicities, occupations, backgrounds, and experiences.

We believe that this diversity has not only enriched the lives of our residents, employees, and friends, but has also strengthen our community.  The stories are more interesting, the food has more flavor, and friendships are deeper.  Atherton is a “tapestry of interwoven identities embodying rich diversity.”

Atherton’s historic mission will always be central to our identity, but the rich diversity of God’s children on this earth will also always be honored in our community.

Blessings!
