James 1:12

Happy are those who remain faithful under trials, because when they succeed in passing such a test, they will receive as their reward the life which God has promised to those who love him.

Questions for reflection:

  • What trials do I face today in which my faithfulness will be tested?
  • Am I claiming God’s promise of life for those who love him?

Thought for today:
Those who stand the test of their trials will have joy here and hereafter. In this life they will have the joy of being tried and true. The word James uses for passing the test is a word the Greeks use to describe sterling silver or 22 carat gold: all the crud has been burned out. Those who pass the test will have the joy in this life of becoming all God intended. The iron crown of suffering becomes the gold crown of glory. For the Christian the best is never behind us. It is always ahead of us.
