Something to Think About: And MORE

Reflections by Chuck Cluff, Atherton resident since 2004

John 10:10

I have come that you may have life, and have it to the full.

God is everything, and more. The source is always more than the demand. The supply more than the need. How refreshing and exhilarating this awareness is!

God is always more than enough. Picture small streams being fed by a massive lake that continually overflows from the rains. No matter how much is used by travelers down the line, there is always more water in the lake, sitting there waiting to flow out to the small streams from its abundance. In the days when farmers irrigated, the dry trenches that would bring water to the thirsty plants waited for the worker to lift the gate to allow the liberal supply from the wells to flow.

As we struggle to maintain, there is always the unending supply of hope, joy and peace, waiting for us to allow it to flow from the grandness of God, into the tiny receptacles we think of as ourselves. When things look bleak, bounty is right at hand; as close as our openness.

What we consider an enormous need is a small thing to God; not meaning our need is small to God but rather that our need is easy for God to fill. Remaining aware of God’s plenty to meet our lack, and trusting God to do so, is what faith is. It is our believing that God wants to and can take care of our necessities that opens the God gate that will satisfy our own thirsty and hungry souls; even to overflowing.

The psalmist David expressed it this way: “my cup runs over.”
