Chris Mason, Receptionist Supervisor

It is a rare person who can combine the attributes of a highly organized administrator with the courtesy, empathy and personality of a customer service professional.  Since 2010, Chris Mason has served Atherton in just such a calling as the Receptionist Supervisor. Chris oversees a team of 5 at the front desk whose passion is to please. This is modeled and nurtured by their humble leader.  Chris is an influencer. In fact, during her tenure, she has seen five of her team members grow into other positions at Atherton where they still serve with the same passion.

Chris came to Atherton, after nearly 30 years in customer service and administration within the trucking industry. What drew her was the Christian environment and her deep relationships with some friends who were on the Atherton staff.  Also, Chris’s mother has been a happy resident here since 2004. This has given Chris a unique perspective on her work.

Chris and her husband love Angels baseball and traveling. Every dog at Atherton knows that the front desk is the place to go for a treat; and Chris is an avid reader.

How does it feel to be the first voice of Atherton for most people?
“It is very humbling and something I take very seriously.  I want everyone to sense how special Atherton is because of the residents that are here.”

What is most gratifying to you about your work at Atherton? “I want to have a personal relationship with every resident, to put them first and to make them feel like this is their home.  It doesn’t always happen because we are always multi-tasking at the front desk; but I love it when there is time to visit with  them.”

How does your faith impact your work here?  “I feel a deep responsibility to look each person in the eyes with the love of Jesus.  I am not perfect, but I do believe this is my calling, beyond the work I do.”
