Staff Notes: Staying Connected

By Rev. J. Craig Statton, President & CEO

Last year I got one of the best blessings of my life: Our first, sweet little grandchild, Cosette, was born. My wife and I became the same doting grandparents that our parents had been.

But there was a big problem: we live in Burbank and she lives in San Jose. We wanted to experience her first smile, her first laugh, her first steps; all the joys of watching a little one grow. What were we to do? The answer was easy: We simply made our daughter swear she would post a photo or video of our granddaughter each day on the family photo album on the Internet. It has been a wonderful and magical year as we have watched her grow through this first year.

It is amazing how technology improves our lives. According to Pew Research, internet use for those over 65 grew 150% just within the last two years! Seniors use these tools to bridge the miles to loved ones far away, like my Cosette, and to re-connect with friends from long ago.

Technology is also important at Atherton. We will be adding resident-friendly features to our new website and we seek to learn and incorporate the technological advances for seniors that are launching every day. We hope you will check out our new website and connect with us online. But don’t just visit us on the web; come and visit us in person. And if you see me around our campus, ask to see a picture of Cosette. I have plenty…on my phone.

In His Grace & Love,

Craig
President & CEO
