Something to Think About: Always New
Reflections by Chuck Cluff, Atherton resident since 2004.
Psalm 136
There are many stopping points, but one eternal journey. Our eternal venture will have frequent places we pause for enjoyment and rest; but we will eventually want to move on. Why? Because God will always whet our appetites for more.
Parents and teachers don’t let their students stop in mid learning. They know what the students have yet to acquire, to experience, to enjoy. Even more so is it true related to our eternal journey. God is more than anything in his creation, and, God being like he is, always wants to share who he is and everything he has. We will never reach a place or state where there isn’t something more God has for us! Meeting Jesus and knowing him as his disciples did is one thing, but knowing the Father as Spirit is another thing again. The one in whom all is, is beyond comprehension, so we will never fully grasp the grandeur of our Heavenly Father. The full wonder of God is an eternal discovery! That is awesome and wonderful to think about.
We all know how something new is excitedly enjoyed at first. But when we get used to it and it becomes our normal we start taking it for granted; things are not as special as they were in the beginning. This clearly shows as a new car transitions into a used one. A new toy winds up in a corner of the room. It happens to everything. If eternity led us to a finished place and a final state, boredom might also be our experience in heaven. However, with God being so infinitely beyond us we recognize there will never be an end to God surprises. With God there will always be something new.
