Something to Think About: The Only Way

Reflections by Chuck Cluff, Atherton resident since 2004.

Matthew 6:10
Your Kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

God has it right. The only way to a perfect society is love; everyone mattering to everyone else, everyone paying attention to how everyone else is doing, everyone wanting good to come to all. Loving is the ambiance of a perfect social environment. And, it already exists: the Kingdom of Heaven, the Kingdom of God.

In God’s Kingdom everyone wants everyone to be OK; to be successful, fulfilled, happy. With this interest in how everyone is doing, all help God make it so. Those assisting are healthy because health is the result of being outside yourself, of thinking of the whole, not just the part. This is what practical love looks like.

Just think; no need for upmanship, for being better than anyone else, or feeling less than anyone. Everyone is just who he/she is, and that is fine. There are no special persons, because everyone is special. There are no ego issues because each accepts and likes oneself as is. Selfishness is self-centeredness and self-centeredness quickly depletes the few inner resources of personal supply. Is God observing our discovering this as we watch what selfishness does to our planet? Doesn’t God show us what we do to ourselves by letting us reap what we sow? Many of us already know God’s way of love and consideration is the best way, but it is the narrow way.

Love is more than just a word. It is an expression of caring. This caring shows in tangible action; bringing good into the life of another. Just a small act of good, is more than small! God wants to always bring good into our lives. This is why God promises to always be with us, to meet all our needs. It is a high calling Jesus put before us when he encouraged us to pray, “May your Kingdom come here (on earth), as it is there (in heaven)”. What will it look like?

Love will be everywhere!
